Uczestnicy konkursu

Widzowie TV Polonia - młodzież polska i polonijna w wieku 16-25 lat z różnych krajów świata

Zasady konkursu

-         Uczestnicy przygotowują opracowania do zaprezentowania na konferencji (w języku angielskim)

-         Tematyka opracowania musi być zgodna z tematami sesji konferencyjnych (lista tematów poniżej)

-         Opracowanie może być w formie opisu własnych doświadczeń lub przeżyć; oceny sytuacji młodzieży; propozycji zmian lub rozwiązań na przyszłość

-         Długość opracowania nie powinna przekraczać 4 stron maszynopisu (trzcionka Times Roman 12, pojedyńczy odstęp). Dodatkowe informacje lub ilustracje można dołączyć w załącznikach

-         Opracowania należy przesłać w terminie do 30 kwietnia 2003 roku do biura KPKOA pocztą, faksem, lub emailem z dopiskiem: Konferencja Młodzieży – Konkurs

-         KPKOA wyłoni dwie zwycięskie prace do 31 maja 2003.

Sesje konferencji będą prowadzone w języku angielskim.

Zestaw tematów jest podany ponizej.

Value of Democracy

Around the world, many different models are used for society governance and everyday life. This seminar will discuss selected global and local democratic models and values, and their impact on youth in both “old” and “new” democracies.  The topics and examples will include human rights, multi-culturalism, inclusion, tolerance, dialogue and cooperation as opposed to use of force.

Multi-Culturalism, Inclusion, Racial Tensions, Violence

-         All-inclusive comprehensive approach to equality: in relation to race, color, religion, gender, age, social background, sexual orientation, and other factors

-         Challenges faced by multi-ethnic population in Canada and other regions of the world.  Contributions of first nations and aboriginal people

14:30 – 17:00  Workshop B

Concepts of Democracy

-         Milestones in history of democracy and problems facing the future of democracy.  Freedoms and responsibilities

-         Legal issues. Constitutions and the Chart of Freedoms

 

11:00 – 12:00   Seminar #2

Globalization: Human Rights, Education, Economy, and Politics

The goal of this seminar is to discuss the consequences of globalization for youth life careers; including positive and the negative aspects of complex world economy and competition; new directions in education, planning and marketing; and possible strategies to assist young people from various world regions and countries.

The social and moral aftermath of the 20th century. Scientific and technological progress in biology, physics, medicine, electronics and other disciplines. Rights and choices faced by youth.  Privacy issues threatened by developments in communication and computer sciences.  Researching weapons.

14:30 – 17:00  Workshop A

Revolutionary Sciences 

-         Genetic engineering and cloning; progress in medicine. Benefits for mankind and possible dangers. Ethical and moral concerns regarding genetic modifications

-         Sciences challenging democracy and interpretation of human rights

14:30 – 17:00   Workshop B

Information Technology

-         Possible effects of information technology revolution on values and principles of democracy. Direct on-line democracy

-         Information technology and equality - the gap between the rich and the poor

Social Challenges in Democratic Societies

This seminar will explore how democratic systems deal with challenges faced by youth in their social life, including drugs, alcohol, violence, and street life.  Reasons for young people’s conflicts with law.  Sexual exploitation of youth.  Awareness and sensitivity. Youth volunteerism, sharing resources, and community support groups. Stakeholder network and cooperation.

14:30 – 17:00 - Workshop A

Exploitation of Youth

-         Real-life survivors of street life and conflicts with law.  Life stories of how they became involved, what happened to them, and how they were supported to break their involvement

-         Reasons for young people from various society groups to abuse alcohol, tobacco, and drugs. Fashion, peer pressure, opportunity, social and emotional difficulties

14:30 – 17:00  Workshop B

Youth in Cooperation with Communities and Governments

-         Establishing and utilization of the stakeholder network. Partnering with service and community organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies

-         Volunteer work as a fundamental block of a democratic system.  Sharing youth experience and resources in community life

11:00 – 12:00  Seminar #6

Religion, Spirituality, and Democracy

This seminar will explore the links between democracy, spiritual life, and various religions of the world.  Democratic values incorporated in religion.  Power of spirituality. Freedom of religion.  Challenges in interpretation of faith.  Escape into cults.

14:30 – 17:00   Workshop A

Religious Diversity and Spiritual Freedom

-         Spiritual life as a value and challenge for democracy

-         Eliminating prejudice and discrimination based on different faith in schools and communities – simple in theory, difficult in practice

14:30 – 17:00  Interdisciplinary Panel Workshop for Seminars #2 and #4 and #6.

 Pop and Global Culture versus Traditional Identities

-         Role of pop culture in young people’s development.  Effects on self-esteem, body image, and lifestyle.  Concept of celebrity.  Trends in advertising

-         Social and behavioural impact of global media on young generation. Traditional values. Sharing cultural heritage versus assimilation.
